Does your company have any Windows 7 or 8 computers? How about Office 2007 or 2010?
Microsoft is ending support for most of these as of December 31, 2019. That means no more security patches and other critical updates. That means it will be dangerous to have these within your organization.
In the case of old versions of Office including Word, Outlook, Excel, etc. It’s an easy fix to upgrade these to Office 2019. However, with Windows 7 and Windows 8 computers, you have a choice.
While it is possible to upgrade some Windows 7 computers to Windows 10, it may not be a good option. An upgrade can cost $200. It also takes a couple of hours of labor ($$). It may not succeed. Moreover, you likely still have a very old computer. Therefore, unbelievably, it is often a better value to just replace the Windows 7 computers with new computers.
It’s getting down to the wire, so we recommend addressing this sooner rather than later. The first step is to take an inventory of every desktop and laptop and note which version of Windows it is running and what version of Office is installed. Find out how many problem computers you have, so you can make a plan for how to address them.
