A video appearing to show Gov Ron DeSantis withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race has been widely circulated via X. It was declared to be fake but that didn’t stop other platforms from themselves circulating the video claiming it to be true.
Alan was interviewed and said these fake videos are very dangerous. Intended initially as a joke they can potentially have very serious consequences.
They are artificial images and or videos, generated using specialized equipment which can alter both the appearance and the voice of anyone.
In this current era where misinformation is widely spread online, Alan stressed the importance of cybersecurity education. There are of course tell-tale signs in the videos but not everyone will spot them. If in doubt Alan’s advice is not to trust them. Don’t believe everything you see.
Alan’s advice is to pay close attention to stories about Artificial Intelligence, because the wrong doers will use the latest technology and find a way to trick people. They will always aim for things that are time sensitive and the presidential elections are huge and they will try to take advantage of that and also Tax time too.
