Possibly the biggest IT outage ever, caused unprecedented disruptions across the world, impacting flights, banks and other major institutions on Friday July 19.
Alan was interviewed by WPTV and said he'd never seen an outage of this magnitude.
It was massive and we were lucky, he said. Had this required wiping and reloading computers, reinstalling all the software it could have taken hours per computer, instead of five minutes. It could have been too bad for a recovery.
Asked how a single content update could have such far reaching and serious consequences, Alan said it's because the program is on so many of the world’s computers.
Many Fortune 500 companies, in particular. And since that program had something that broke, it took down so many computers.
