Despite top of the line antivirus and antispyware protections in place, the spyware creators are still able to create items that get through the filters and cause infections. (But that’s not what this article is about). The most common methods of infection are still infected attachments to emails and “drive-by” hits from websites while browsing the Internet.
As we approach the end of 2012, it's time to give some thought as to what your IT needs may look like in 2013. If you haven't already, it's a great idea to put a budget together for new hardware (computers, servers, infrastructure upgrades such as firewalls, backups, and network devices), and any software upgrades you have been putting off for a while.
With hurricane season fading into history yet again, we can relax knowing our network and data are safe again. The dangerous storms have come and gone and we can focus on the next item on the to-do list. We’ve successfully saved our data and our jobs…or have we?
Although storms and weather get a lot of attention for the damage and outages they cause, there is another, more subtle danger that can be just as catastrophic to your network and to your business.
You've worked with it for years. You know more about it than you do about your favorite pet. But do you really know your network? How many user accounts do you have that are no longer in use? Do you know how many times you've installed your licensed software? Have you recently looked into those errors on your workstations?

I have often read about how technology today allows people to work effectively from anywhere in the world, be it from home, branch office, hotel or even on the move. I had thought ‘how brilliant’ but assumed this was reserved for the world of the very well equipped, tech savvy elite.

Now imagine that in the ensuing lawsuit, your business is able to obtain an instruction from the Judge directing the Jury to make an adverse inference from the fact that the thief failed to properly maintain e-mails, didn't produce them, lost, or even destroyed them.
